Distribution

From Senegal to Kenya, south to NW Namibia and South Africa (northern Kwazulu-Natal).

Biology

Pollinator: Courtella michaloudi (Wiebes).

Non-pollinator: Seres wardi van Noort.

Habitat

In various types of forests, including secondary areas, and savanna along water courses.

Description

Biological form

tree up to 25 m tall, hemi-epiphytic or often terrestrial

Leaves

shape & colour

elliptic to oblong, coriaceous, apex shortly acuminate to rounded, base obtuse to rounded, both surfaces glabrous

 

size

12-30 x 6-23 cm

 

lateral veins

6-8 pairs, often furcate far from the margin

 

petiole

4-11 cm long, glabrous

Stipules

0.3-0.5 cm long, glabrous or partly puberulous, caducous

Figs

position

up to 2-3 on short spurs on the main branches and on the trunk

 

shape

globose, Æ 3-4 cm (fresh), glabrous to minutely brown puberulous

 

peduncle

0.7-1 cm long

 

basal bracts

4-5 mm long, persistent
