Distribution

Distribution_of_Ficus_wakefieldii

Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania and northern Zambia.

Biology

Pollinator: Elisabethiella socotrensis (Mayr).

Habitat

Savanna woodland in rocky places and on termite mounds, up to an altitude of 2000m.

Description

Biological form

tree up to 25 m tall, terrestrial, wide crown

Leaves

shape & colour

cordiform to ovate, (sub)coriaceous, apex rounded, base cordate, both surface ± hirtellous

 

size

6-23 x 5-23 cm

 

lateral veins

5-8 pairs, basal pair branched reaching margin at or just above the middle of the lamina

 

petiole

2-6 cm long, hirtellous

Stipules

0.5-1.5 cm long, yellow hirsute, caducous

in pairs in the leaf axils, initially enclosed by bud covers

subglobos, Æ 1.5-2 cm (fresh), densely to sparsely yellow pubescent
