Distribution

From South Africa to Senegal and Ethiopia, also in Madagascar and Mascarene Islands.

Biology

Pollinator: Allotriozoon heterandromorphum Grandi.

Habitat

In forest or savanna, along rivers in marshy areas, often planted.

Description

Biological form

tree up to 20 m tall, terrestrial

Leaves

shape & colour

elliptic to oblong, coriaceous, apex shortly acuminate, base obtuse, both surface glabrous or minutely puberulous

 

size

7-25 x 3-12 cm

6-8 pairs, basal pair reaching margin far below the middle of the lamina

 

petiole

2-13 cm long, glabrous or white pilose

Stipules

0.5-2.5 cm (flush up to 12 cm) long, white to maroon puberulous, caducous
